Spotlight on Primary

As the Deputy Principal of Primary, I feel privileged to be in the position of overseeing Kindergarten to Year 7. My office is in the central administration block, but I spend much of my day interfacing with students, teachers and parents. In this capacity I have observed the Primary curriculum being delivered to students with skill and enthusiasm.
In Primary, emphasis is placed both on the curriculum itself and also the context for learning. The curriculum has a distinctly Christian flavour to reflect the belief that all life and learning originates from God. Also, the emphasis on mind, body and spirit reflects the belief that spiritual well-being is as important as physical and mental well-being. Students are encouraged to participate in reading the Bible and praying (devotions), singing spiritual songs and learning about the Christian faith during Christian Living lessons. Teachers may also use opportunities in everyday subjects to highlight a Christian and/or alternative perspective.
The Christian faith also permeates the conduct and attitudes of the staff at the College, fostering an environment where honesty and respect is valued and promoted in all interactions. The development and maintenance of healthy, positive relationships between students is a key priority area; this is reinforced through an engaged and proactive "Appropriate Behaviour Policy" and a Pastoral Care program. The Christian principles of saying "sorry", asking for forgiveness and receiving grace are utilised on a daily basis to encourage positive conflict resolution.
The College environment is safe, nurturing and caring for the "whole child" and is committed to working with parents to facilitate excellent learning and social outcomes. Moreover, for students to have an understanding of their identity, self worth and potential in line with this verse from the Bible, "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11)
