Mrs. Rachel Thyer, Chaplain at Swan Christian College and Year 12 Student, Rachel of Ellenbrook Christian College, appeared on ABSCBN’s ‘The Morning Program’ on December 2.
They were joined by Pastor Gary Visitacion, who is the Project Manager – Philippines for SCEA.
Filmed as a part of the 2015 Leavers 2 Leaders Trip at ABSCBN’s studios in Bacolod, the Philippines, Rachel and Mrs. Sercombe reflected on their trip to remote Filipino communities as students from Ellenbrook Christian College, Swan Christian College and Southern Hills Christian College watched on from the live studio audience.
“We’ve been doing this for a number of years now”, said Pastor Visitacion.
“This program is growing every year, and the students are not just here to visit the Philippines, but at the same time experience that Australia is not just the world – the world includes other countries and different cultures.”
“This is one of the main objectives why we’re bringing our graduating students from our schools to really experience what’s happening outside of Australia”.
Interviewed by the show’s anchor, our student and staff also reflected on their experience of the past fortnight.
“It’s a beautiful country, I love the country,” said Rachel of Ellenbrook Christian College.
“I learned that the people here are so genuine, and so friendly, and I want to take that back to Australia”, she said.
Mrs Rachel Thyer, Chaplain of Swan Christian College, also discussed some activities the students completed.
“We’ve had some great opportunities to see the beautiful sights around, seeing the ocean and visiting a mall,” she said.
“I really enjoyed meeting the people. This is my favourite part of the trip.
“Meeting children in the communities, their families, their parents, seeing their way of life has been a real joy to me”, said Mrs Thyer.
Following the interview, the students from all three schools enjoyed a live performance from a local group and met The Morning Show hosts.
