beautiful, heroic, outstanding, and really cool.

Excitement blazed and spirits soared during our recent musical excursion to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where the Year 8 Music class had the opportunity to witness an astonishing performance by Defying Gravity Percussion, as part of WAAPA’s series of classical lunchtime concerts.

Defying Gravity is directed very enthusiastically by lecturer Tim White, and features tertiary level percussionists studying at WAAPA and the University of Western Australia. The concert on 28 April featured a huge variety of music, including a dazzling medley from Riverdance, a furiously fast ragtime piece, and a Japanese requiem called Marimba Spiritual.

A mystical arrangement of the magical soundtrack from The Dark Knight, arranged and performed by local duo Kaboom Percussion, especially impressed our students. The Year 8 class came away from the Defying Gravity concert absolutely astounded by this enchanting showcase, describing it as “beautiful, heroic, outstanding, and really cool.” WAAPA has provided a truly memorable musical experience for our students.
