Secondary Interhouse Swimming Carnival 2026

Last week, our Secondary School gathered for the annual Swimming Carnival, enjoying fantastic weather and plenty of healthy house competition. Students competed across a range of events, earning valuable points for their houses and giving their all in the pool.

It was great to see strong participation throughout the day, with students stepping up in both competitive and novelty races. The cheering from the sidelines added to the atmosphere, as houses proudly supported their teammates.

Thank you to our staff for their organisation and to all students who represented their houses with enthusiasm and good sportsmanship.

The results for the winning houses and the individual champions will be announced at the Secondary Assembly on 4 March. We look forward to recognising our students’ achievements then.

Growing Our Team: New Secondary Staff for 2026

As our enrolments continue to grow each year, so too does our team. Following the announcement at the end of 2025 regarding the expansion of our teaching staff, we are delighted to welcome three new members to our Secondary team in 2026.

We are pleased to welcome David as our new Secondary Woodwork teacher. Originally from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, David spent much of his childhood in East London before completing a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and stepping straight into a 15-year teaching career spanning South Africa, the United Kingdom and Australia. He is passionate about nurturing young people and loves the opportunities education provides to inspire creativity and skill. David is married with two children, enjoys golf, running and painting, and is a loyal supporter of Arsenal and the Springboks. He is especially excited to meet our students and share his love for hands-on, creative learning in the workshop.

We are pleased to welcome Twanette Vorster as our new Secondary Humanities and Social Sciences teacher. Originally from South Africa, Twanette has been teaching for 16 years and is passionate about helping students build confidence as they grasp new and challenging concepts. She values being part of a Christ-centred community and is excited to form meaningful connections with students and colleagues at ECC. Twanette enjoys reading, beach time, adventurous family activities, strong coffee, and a good dad joke.

We are pleased to welcome Stephen Herd as our new Secondary Physical Education teacher. With two years of teaching experience, Stephen is passionate about helping students develop a lifelong love of physical activity and make healthy, active choices beyond school. He came to know Christ nearly 20 years ago and values how his faith shapes both his life and his teaching. Outside of school, Stephen umpires football in the PFL, enjoys running, loves rock music and Harry Potter, and is known for quoting obscure film and TV lines in everyday conversation.

Please join us in welcoming these new staff members into the ECC community. Stay tuned for next month’s newsletter, where we’ll profile more new staff.

A Night to Remember: The ECC Year 12 Ball 2026

On Friday, 30 January, our Year 12 students joined the Northshore Christian Grammar School Year 12 cohort for the much-anticipated annual Year 12 Ball, held at the beautiful Mulberry Estate in the Swan Valley.

Our students made a showstopping entrance, arriving in style and proudly showcasing their glamorous outfits. Students were warmly welcomed by ECC Principal Mrs Michelle Schouten and NCGS Principal Mr Stuart Chisholm before stepping into an evening to remember.

The dance floor quickly came alive as students and staff celebrated together. From timeless favourites like YMCA to the ever-popular Nutbush, the music kept the energy high and the smiles wide.

The evening concluded with the announcement of the Beau and Belle of the Ball, along with the ‘Life of the Party’ award. Congratulations to Skyla E., who was named Life of the Party, Zac M. as Beau of the Ball, and Ruramai M. as Belle of the Ball.

Overall, the night was a wonderful success and a meaningful way to mark the beginning of an important and exciting year for our Year 12 cohort.
