Year 5.1 Takes Learning to New Heights with Flapping Magpie Mobiles

Our Year 5.1 students recently showcased their creativity, problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for learning during a special Primary School Assembly, where they proudly presented their “Flapping Magpie Mobiles” to the College community.

After weeks of designing, building and refining their creations, students brought their projects to life by soaring them above the audience and through the assembly space. The interactive presentation gave families, staff and fellow students a unique glimpse into the learning that has taken place across multiple curriculum areas throughout the semester.

The project combined concepts from Science, Technologies, Mathematics and Geography, challenging students to apply their knowledge in practical and engaging ways. Through the design process, students developed new skills while exploring how creativity and critical thinking can work together to solve problems and create something meaningful.

One of the highlights of the assembly was seeing the pride and excitement on students’ faces as they shared their work. The opportunity to present their learning to the wider College community brought a tremendous sense of accomplishment and celebration for the class.

The Flapping Magpie Mobiles not only demonstrated what students have learned, but also reflected the curiosity, perseverance and teamwork that have been hallmarks of Year 5.1 throughout the semester.

We are incredibly proud of the effort and dedication shown by every student and look forward to seeing what exciting projects and learning adventures await Year 5.1 in Semester 2.

Year 7 Dancers Take Centre Stage

Last week, our Primary students were treated to an exciting dance showcase as our talented Year 7 Dance students took to the stage to perform a series of self-choreographed routines.

Working in small troupes, each group created and performed its own unique piece, showcasing not only their dance skills but also their creativity, teamwork and confidence. From energetic performances to expressive storytelling through movement, every routine reflected the students’ hard work and enthusiasm for the performing arts.

The showcase was a wonderful opportunity for our younger students to see what they can look forward to as they progress through the College, while celebrating the talent and dedication of our Year 7 dancers. A special thank you to our Dance Teacher, Mrs Leanne Beevers, whose encouragement, expertise and passion continue to inspire students and nurture a love of dance and the arts across our College.

Congratulations to all of our Year 7 performers on a fantastic showcase. We can’t wait to see what you create next!

If you’ve been following our social media, you’ll have seen the exciting announcement of our principal cast and ensemble. Following a competitive audition process, each student was carefully selected by our production panel. After the outstanding talent on display at last year’s ECC Talent Show, audiences can expect an exceptional performance.

Based on the much-loved 2006 Disney film, High School Musical On Stage follows Troy and Gabriella, two students who discover a shared love of singing and decide to audition for their school’s musical. As they step outside their comfort zones, they inspire others to embrace their own talents and challenge expectations. Filled with catchy songs, energetic dance numbers and plenty of humour, it’s a heartwarming celebration of friendship, confidence and being true to yourself.

This year’s production is especially significant as Ellenbrook Christian College celebrates its 25th anniversary. High School Musical On Stage is a wonderful celebration of our College community and all that has been achieved over the past 25 years.

Packed with vibrant characters, catchy musical numbers and plenty of heart, this production is set to entertain audiences across three performances:

  • Wednesday, 29 July – 6:30pm
  • Thursday, 30 July – 6:30pm
  • Friday, 31 July – 6:30pm

Tickets are still available, so gather your family, invite your friends and join us for an unforgettable evening of music, laughter and outstanding student talent. We can’t wait to welcome you to the show!

Year 9s Explore Careers Beyond the Classroom

Over the past two months, our Year 9 students have enjoyed two exciting career taster experiences, providing valuable insight into future study and employment opportunities across a range of industries.

Last month, students attended the NMTAFE Integrated Technology Career Taster, where they stepped into the world of emerging technologies. They designed and created their own 3D printed objects, programmed McQueen robots using Python and Coding Blocks, and developed their problem-solving skills through engaging robotics challenges. The experience offered students a glimpse into studying integrated technology while encouraging them to think creatively and logically.

Earlier this month, another group of Year 9 students visited the Construction Futures Training Centre to explore the diverse world of construction. Through hands-on activities, virtual reality simulations and interactive challenges, students discovered career pathways across the residential, commercial and civil construction sectors while gaining a greater understanding of the industry’s important role in shaping communities throughout Western Australia.

Both experiences encouraged students to consider the many pathways available after school while building confidence, practical skills and curiosity about future careers. It was fantastic to see our students embrace these opportunities with enthusiasm and a willingness to challenge themselves in new environments.

A big thank you to the teams at Construction Futures Training Centre and North Metropolitan TAFE for providing such engaging and inspiring experiences for our students.

ECC Netball Teams Aim High at WACSSA Netball Carnival

At the beginning of this month, we proudly took 6 teams comprised of Year 5 and Year 6 students, who represented the college at the WACSSA Netball carnival. Our teams competed against several other Christian schools across Western Australia, they showed great determination, enthusiasm and teamwork on the court. From exciting matches to impressive goals, our players gave their all and represented ECC with pride.

A huge congratulations to our Year 6 Girls and Year 6 Boys teams for placing 3rd overall, and to our Year 5/6 Girls and Year 5/6 Boys teams for achieving an impressive 2nd overall!

An outstanding achievement and a testament to the hard work, perseverance and team spirit of our students.

ECC Choir Shines at SCEA Collective Choir Day

Earlier this month, our ECC Choir had the exciting opportunity to attend the inaugural SCEA Collective Choir Day, hosted by the Swan Christian College team. The event brought together choirs from all seven schools across the Swan Christian Education Association (SCEA) network for a day of music, learning and connection.

The day began with interactive workshops led by Swan Christian College’s music teachers, where students developed their musical skills by learning to sing in harmony, explore rhythm patterns and perform together as an ensemble.

Students were also treated to a special guest appearance from Perth-based singer-songwriter and rapper Drea. Known for her blend of gospel, R&B and neo-soul, Drea was a Top 8 finalist on Season 9 of Australian Idol and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of musicians. She performed one of her original songs before leading a live harmony workshop and encouraging students to pursue their passions and chase their dreams with confidence.

The day concluded with a combined performance featuring students from all seven schools singing Together We Rise. After spending the day rehearsing harmonies and learning different vocal parts, the choirs came together to deliver a powerful performance showcasing everything they had learnt.

Each school also had the opportunity to perform a prepared piece. Our ECC Choir proudly presented I’m So Blessed by CAIN, representing the College with enthusiasm and excellence.

The inaugural SCEA Collective Choir Day was a wonderful success, providing students with the opportunity to grow their musical skills, build friendships across the SCEA network and gain confidence through a shared love of music.
